Automakers have gone full speed ahead on advertising them, but new safety features designed to keep cars from hitting pedestrians, may leave some drivers in the danger zone! A recent study by Triple A shows the pedestrian detection systems in four different car models didn’t perform as well as expected. On the models tested, Chevy Malibu, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Tesla Model 3 the pedestrian detection systems were generally ineffective at 30 miles per hour, and completely ineffective at night! Triple A’s warning: while these systems have the potential to save lives, drivers should not rely too much on sensors and software to prevent accidents.
